Broken Elan
1997 - 2000
In my desire to define the real, to determine life, I never cease to question the images of the body; I try to explore its postures and movements. But I wondered what the photos allowed to see of the human beyond the model. The strong contrasts of my work support a paradox: the sweetness and violence that we all have in us. Indeed, these bodies which detach themselves from a very black background, emphasizing the model, seem to arise from the page. The bodies are fixed in motion, but the fascination for what constitutes femininity softens the expression of force that takes hold of the photographic material itself. Photography must reveal the truth by means of light and optics. It is necessary to vary the poses, to accentuate the contrasts, to purify the forms, to start again until reaching the intensity of the photographic figure.
